Defeated

Posted by zazu on November 18th, 2007

I am sad to say it, but I think the battle with weight loss the past few months is going to the opposing team. I have not lost a pound since school started in September. (I am a teacher & sign language interpreter at a Community College, plus a graduate student.) With my crazy schedule I just haven’t had time to prepare meals like I was doing before and to exercise. All the free time I have I’m spending on my homework so I can graduate in the Spring. I think I have just resolved myself to doing the best I can and being happy with maintaining until this crazy semester is over. I’m still counting points and I am still following the habits I  have gotten into, but I just can’t seem to lose when I am constantly eating out or eating from the freezer. December 17 is a magic date in my mind - it the day that grades are due and my official last day of work until January. So that means I can actually COOK a meal.  Next semester will be MUCH lighter with only teaching one evening per week instead of two, and taking my last and only graduate class instead of 2-3 at a time. I’m bummed that I haven’t lost in a while, but its relieved some pressure to tell myself that it’s ok to maintain for a couple of weeks  then I can work on losing again.

Don’t beat yourself up- if you’re maintaining during a busy/stressful time, that should be a VICTORY!! Most people turn to food & gain weight when they’re busy or stressed- you’ve been able to keep control & hold the scale steady- give yourself a pat on the back! When life get a little easier & back to normal, I know you’ll go back to losing. You look great- just hang on & keep doing what you know- you WILL get there!!! :D

I agree with Jynell. One of the things my leader is always telling people who maintain through a season (or 2) is, “What would you have been doing if you hadn’t been doing this? Do you think you would have gained, Ya? It’s OK to maintain.” Basically, the only race we’re in is with ourselves. Good luck on the end of your semester. December 17 will be here before you know it.

I agree….sounds like you have a lot going on. You are doing a good job of maintaining. I think of how I get when life gets crazy I want to eat everything in sight….you are making the efforts you can. Also being aware is great too…if you know that this week is super busy, think ahead how you are going to deal with that…..(now I need to go and listen to myself.:)
    Good luck..you are doing great.

I agree. I had to look at it myself that way too because I was starting to beat my self up for not losing as much. In previous years I would have gained with the stress I am under now but we have to give ourselves credit for maintaining.
