Inches lost….good riddance!

Posted by Tammy on March 14th, 2008

I joined an exercise club called Curves on 2/12/08. I found it located right around the corner from my WW meeting place. I’ve been going 3 times a week for 4 weeks now and so far I like it. I was just measured on 3/12 and I’ve lost 4 lbs and a total of 5 inches! Moving in the right direction!

It’s not what I’d call a hard workout. But, for somebody like me that really does not like to sweat…it’s pleasant! I used to go to the YMCA gym, but it was SO time consuming that I just chose not to go. By the time I’d get there, do my workout (with resetting weights and moving about), and go home…and hour and a half easily would have passed. With Curves, I can go there, workout and be home inside of an hour. And,they are both the same travel time from my home. So, for me…it’s working. (I will admit, there are a couple of ladies that go there that I would just as soon not be there the same time as them. LOL Cranky little trolls!) I feel better having gone and I SWEAR I sit up straighter in the car driving home! LOL

After I posted this earlier today…I started to do some house cleaning. But, the sun was shining and it was unseasonably warm for Michigan. I wanted to get outside, but my yard is still full of snow. So, I decide to treat myself and head to downtown ferndale for a tea and a walk. There is a shop there called American Pop and full of neat schotzky(sp?) stuff from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Definitely not your grammas stuff! Well, not mine anyhow! LOL I am aquainted with the owner and dropped in to say “Hi!” I hadn’t seen him since January! He looked at me and asked if I had been losing weight. Woohoo! He is the first person to notice. I haven’t lost much…but, he could tell. he said my face looked thinner. Maybe he was just being kind making a standard comment….but I don’t care….he made my day and I love him for it!

    That’s great Tammy!
I joined the Curves rival Figures ( I think it’s called It Figures) in the US. It’s only 4 blocks from my home and I have no excuse for not going. Well no good excuse.

I agree with you…knowing you can be in and out in 30 minutes can be what makes or breaks someone getting to the gym that day.

~~waves bye bye to your inches and smiles~~

I did Curves for a year a few years ago. It is fun workout. I agree that it is not a hard workout but at least it works most of your body. I have thought about joining again. I did not have great success last time. I thought I could just exercise and still eat whatever I wanted. I ended up gaining weight. I am glad now I know it takes doing both at the same time to be successful. Good luck on having great curves.

Good to hear from you Jolie! I think it is a Figures that is about 2 miles in the other direction from my house. Do they work on the same principal as Curves? I kinda thought they might. The way I see it is even if it’s not a hard workout…it is something I WILL do.

Hi Slim(slimmerreflection). Thanks for posting a comment! I’ve been waiting and waiting all week for a comment! LOL

I was a Curves member several years back and really didn’t use the system to MY advantage. Pretty much like you. Even now when I go, there are some women that have been going for years and I look at them and think, “Does this really work? They don’t LOOK like they have improved in 2 years.” But, I don’t know their story…maybe they have lost lots of weight and maybe it just makes them feel good to be there. Either way, it’s a win, win! It can’t be bad for you. At this stage in my life, I’m really trying to focus on seeing the brighter side of things. There’s no more time to waste on gloom and doom!

Figures is pretty much the same principal as Curves. They have a circuit of machines with rest (walking/jogging) stations in between. Figures allows you to adjust the tension between 1 and 6 and I don’t believe you can at Curves, though I’ve never been to one so I could be wrong. Our lil centre also has some cardio machines as well.

It’s what I need for my body right now. If I continue to lose weight and get stronger, will it be what I need in 75 lbs? I do not know.

I do know I’m sweating when I’m done and I have lost inches so it must be having some positive effects.

    Keep on working out!
