Getting Serious
14 08 2007Well, I’m back from my 10-year reunion and from visiting my parents and twin sisters. BOY!! Am I glad to be home and back in the swing of things. For one thing, I have my bike here, and the trail is right outside my house, so getting practice in is EASY. Secondly, it’s so nice not to have temptation around. My mom, bless her, has chocolate hidden everywhere in the house, and if you are craving crackers, she has Cheese-Its and Wheat Thins galore. My defenses are useless against the likes of simple carbohydrates….what’s a girl to do?
And I must confess…..I committed the ultimate sin: I ate 2.5 pieces of Beau Jo’s pizza. For those of you who don’t know, Beau Jo’s makes “mountain pies.” Gorgeous, quasi-Chicago style pizza with huge doughy crusts that you dip in honey. Yes, honey. So not only did I consume all the greasy fat from the pizza, but I added half a gallon of honey to top it all off. I felt HORRIBLE whilst doing it, but did that stop me? Heck no! I stuffed my face like the inner cow I am and went to town. The pious, “I Shall Not Be Tempted” Mtngirlincali appeared broken in front of her family, who desperately needed her to stay strong and help them fight their own temptations. It was shameful.
Mom was so sweet. I bought a cute outfit for the reunion, and she was calling all our family and telling them I looked like a Barbie doll. How cute! Don’t I wish, huh? I guess my arms and legs are a bit more chiseled than they usually are, but I’m definitely not as thin as I was for my wedding last year. I tried to work out and managed to get in a swim workout the morning of the reunion, but that was about it. I’m hoping to buckle down in the next few weeks and “peak” in time for my 2nd race on September 9th. (First one is next Sunday!!! Woohoo!)
Day one back in Cali, and I’m back on the wagon….both of them. I ate well today, and tonight I did the dreaded hill repeats on my bike. 2 miles of long, slow incline followed by 2 miles of downhill recovery….repeat 3 times! It was pretty rough, but I managed to shave 6 minutes off my time from one month ago. My heart rate was a little too high and took a while to go down, but to my credit it was in the high 90’s during the workout so perhaps some of it was the heat?! I have PT tomorrow, and I can’t wait to report to him that my knees didn’t hurt at all during my ride today— a miracle! We have our mock triathlon Sunday morning at Seal Beach, so I’m getting excited. Perhaps I’ll be cleared for running?
Well, here’s my menu for the day:
| Food | Points | Points Remaining (out of 24) |
|---|---|---|
| Coffeemate with coffee | 3 | 21 |
| Granola Bar | 4 | 17 |
| Smart Ones Ravioli | 5 | 12 |
| Sugar Free Hot Cocoa | 1 | 11 |
| 1 piece of cheese | 1 | 10 |
| 4 Doritos (couldn’t help myself!) | 1 | 9 |
| 1 scoop Cytomax and 1 protein recovery drink | 4 | 5 |
| Crap— 100 calorie pack, 1.5 cups cereal | 6 | -1 |
| Activity Points: 46 minutes cycling, strenuous | +5 | 4 |

I think that staying OP while with our families is one of the hardest things. The pantry and frig are always stocked with foods that I love but that I don’t keep at home (for obvious reasons).
Good for you in getting right back OP with eating and exercising.
And, good luck at PT tomorrow. I’m excited for you that your knee didn’t hurt!
Going to my mom’s is the hardest thing for me when I am OP. It’s detrimental to my plan, that’s for sure. My mom keeps Dorito’s, there’s always some kind of cookies…it’s really hard. Then she wants to go out and eating healthy is HARD when we go out where she lives. So I feel your pain!! Sounds like you enjoyed yourself and that was important.
