HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 20th May 2008

=] how are you today?

I was checking my email and had one from Roni about changes to the website. I haven’t been here for a long time. I haven’t done much with my health. I’ve been working on a new plan, by me, based on all my knowledge, customized for me. I’ll share when I’m done. Mostly it’ll be a journal. I might like put weekly or montly updates on here. I kindof miss you guys! :-D I didn’t miss the 47 “adult video” comments that I just deleted but hey, that’s the way the internet goes.

So a little update on my life.

I got my associates of arts - general emphesis degree this weekend. It doesnt really feel like an accomplishment cause I’m going right back to school this fall for an associates degree in Nursing. I finally decided what I’m going to do, for a while anyway. I’m going to be super busy with everything and well….  We’ll see how things go.

As far as health/fitness goes I’ve been eating better overall. I did make some changes that have stuck. I’ve recently begun being a little more active as well.

Best Wishes to all of you, congratulations on all your hard work.

Jumping back on

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 23rd February 2008

…I hope

WHEE! It’s been too long. I’ve been so busy this semester even though I only have one class. Although I quit posting I did stay somewhat on track for a little while, fell of REALLY BAD for a little while then have been getting back on. Today I decided I’m gonna try the whole food journal thing again. Starting with TODAY. None of that tomorrow bullsmack =)

But first… a little update =)

I haven’t weighed myself since before I quit posting so I don’t know the exact numbers but I’m pretty sure I’ve gained back some of my 23 lb loss. I know I can’t be back up to 295 because I have this skirt that the only time it’s ever acctually fit was at that weight and I almost lost it on thursday. hehe. That could have been fun… dancing with no skirt on… anyway we’ll get to that later.

More than a month ago I realized that I haven’t been doing my running and I’m not very likely to do it as regularly as I originally planned. I don’t think I ever posted that I’m not going to be running the marathon after all. I wasn’t progressing as much as the schedule required and I wasn’t about to hurt myself for it. I’ll get back running when I feel like it and work up steadily and when I get to the point where I can do a lot then I’ll find another marathon to join (it was only a half-marathon that I was going to do anyway for those who haven’t followed my peice-meal blog). Late one night I saw this advertisement for the BenderBall core training method. It seemed like pretty basic exercises just enhanced with this little rubber ball. The price wasn’t bad for the DVDs either. So I ordered them. They said if you return in 30 days no charges apply so I figured I’ll try it, if it’s lame I send it back no big deal, out maybe a few bucks for shipping. I acctually bought them on VHS because at the time I was thinking my DVD player doesnt work and my VCR does … well DUH i should have just bought a new DVD player cuz I NEVER use the VCR xD oh well… :P I wasn’t very brilliant that week, i was not being able to go to sleep and then having to get up — sleep deprived. Anyway so I never opened it once it showed up and then I got a second box from them and I thought “what in the world?” So I opened them both. Apparently it’s a subscription you can cancel at any time. LOL It had been over 30 days since I got the first one (acctually a pair on vhs, they put 2 25 min workouts on each dvd) and I hadn’t returned it or cancelled so they sent me the next set. So I figured I’d just send the second set back on the return policy. More on this exercise video in a bit.

So, I joined a musical as a Liesure studies class at college, It’s gonna be a blast. We’re doing Oklahoma! I didn’t get a part but that wasn’t at all surprising. I’ll have a blast in the chorus as usual =). So thursday night we did our first night of practice. We danced for almost three hours with a 10 min break in the middle. =D LOL i was sore the next day (yesterday - friday) I told my sister “i think i discovered some new muscles” I used my whole body in ways I dont’ normally. It was a workout, everyone was sweating =).

Then the next day, friday, yesterday, I could tell i had too much sugar in my system I was irritable, hot, my body was trying to deal with all this sugar but I didn’t need it and I wasn’t using it. So I decided hey I’ll try that exercise video see if it’s any good. So I had to dig through stuff for almost 30 mins before I found my missing cable. I still haven’t finished moving my stuff out of my old room *sigh* gotta do that this afternoon … unless something better comes up =P. Yes, I know i’m terrible. So I did the first video, the core method. It was pretty easy in some parts and not in others. It was a pretty good workout but I don’t have the balance for it, but the balancing is really what gives you the toned core. So I didn’t feel very exercised so I went ahead and did the buns & thighs tape too. (these 2 are the 1st set) and OH BOY did it work those thighs =D lol its great. I highly reccomend it. It’s not too hard, and it’s kinda fun trying to balance on the wobbly lil ball =) The weight limit for the ball is 300 lbs. I couldn’t find it anywhere on the website before I ordered and it was something I was worried about myself so I’m posting it here for you guys.

Anyway so today I’m sore EVERYWHERE and OHBOY does it feel great! Wheeeeeeee :) so I’m gonna cancle my subscription to BenderBall but I’m gonna go ahead & keep the 4 tapes I already have.

For anyone who’s curious: I’m not being payed for this testimonial, I just really thought it was fun. =D I hope anyone who buys it based on my reccomendation agrees!

So, My plan for now is to record everything I eat, try to eat a little something every 2-3 hours to keep my metabolism up. Keep track of my weight and maybe keep track of my measurements. I really am trying to lose about 30 lbs by showtime, that’s about 3-4lbs a week. The performance is probably the first week of May, or the week before or after that. We’re going to schedule it around finals and local graduations and such so that people don’t have conflicts. I know that one of the local highschool’s graduations is Friday, May 9th and the next friday is the colleges graduation. So we’ll have to see. I’m guessing it will be Apr 30 & may 1st & 2nd Not sure how many nights we’ll do it but that’s my guess wed thur fri that week =)

Anyway that’s my update =D

Glad to be back

I now have 104 comments to check. I’m guessing at least 80 are ads but the few that aren’t will be worth weeding through the others to find =)

As an interesting side-note

of my 104 comments which were posted over the course of about 6 weeks

9 were posted from the IP 64.22.110.2 either commenting on a diet to reduce acne or by the name Daniel saying he didnt understand the post and has a link back to a variety of email addresses/homepages

79 [[i forgot to check how many were on the 4th page]]
were posted by IP’s starting in 85.255.120 either advertising one of two particular drugs or videos of a nature I would rather not use the word for to not attract any more comments of that variety all these comments had mostly nonsense names and the e-mail address on the first 60 and some of the 4th page i saw was the same garbage name [at]gmx[dot]com the rest advertiesed a variety of drugs and had a variety of email addresses, about 4 diff servers

2 were posted by IPs starting 209.59.201 and had similar gramatic types but no apparent connection other than that

3 were posted by email address starting radiusali about amazon discounts but the rest of the info varied

1 had no connections to any that i saw today but i’ve had it before. it just repeats a section of my blog and links to a forum where my blog’s been linked dozens of times =/

8 other spam types had no connections to any others in the list that i noticed

AND TWO ♥ A FULL TWO REAL COMMENTS ♥ =D

Getting Up To Date

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 23rd December 2007

I’ve decided I am going to keep blogging here. There are many things going on in my personal life that I don’t want to put in an online journal. At the same time, there are several things that I can’t talk about with the people in my life that I do need to get out of my system. I think I’ll be able to calm myself down and quit having emotional breakdowns if I manage to open up to the right people about the right sorts of things. When it comes to personal things such as weight, diet, and exercise I don’t feel comfortable talking with anyone I am around on a day-to-day basis. When it comes to other sorts of issues, some of them I need to deal with internally and some of them I need to take up with the other people involved. I think I can do this with a balance between this blog (health), a private journal, and by kicking myself and making myself open up to the people around me how I really feel about certain things. I don’t feel any use for keeping a daily food journal. Tallying up for the day helps me not overeat on a day-by-day basis but I rarely review anything other than the current day. I probably won’t post as frequently as I have in the past but I do think I’ll continue posting especially now that the internet in my bedroom has been restored and my only access to the internet isn’t my parents’ computers or at work. Keeping this blog has helped me in a few ways, but I don’t think it’s really helped me with what I eat, this is why I’ve decided not to keep a food journal. Honestly, most of the time I know that I’m eating something that’s unhealthy or a poor choice. On another note, the chart of my weight has really helped. The further that little slider gets to the right the more I think :O YAY I really AM getting somewhere. Especially once it hit the halfway mark (on the current goal).

Recently I got excited because I thought I would be able to join an aerobics group that has been going on for long enough I honestly don’t know when it started. I even talked to the teacher/leader of the group about it and she was excited I’d be comming back. Then I realized that it starts before I get off work which had me really down because the group feel is really encouraging to me. I feel motivated to keep up and keep going.

I started a marathon training group with my sisters a while back. Honestly, it was just to give me motivation to acctually exercise. I thought we’d be able to get a bigger group and that it would give me that feeling that helps me so much. Since our group is so scattered, we haven’t ever all run together. I’ve only ever done 1 run with others, there were 3 of us. I don’t think my Mom’s done any training at all and one of my sisters has kept on {the} track really well. Two of my sisters don’t know if they can afford to sign up (45 if registered before Jan 1st, 55 after) and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get TO the marathon. Some group effort. However this paragraph was supposed to be about the encouraging part of this whole mess. I just got off track. I started an online MSN group, Centennial Runners, for us to post on since we live so far apart and group e-mails aren’t as cool. :P Everyone but Mom has joined the group. I don’t think Mom’s really going to do it, though she sounded like she wanted to at first.

So far I’ve bought a sports bra and some shorts that are supposed to wick moisture away better than cotton. I haven’t used either yet because I haven’t been running.

To get over the blues about the aerobics class I ordered this set of exercise vids and an exercise ball that’s about the size of a 4square ball. It was only 17 dollars after shipping was added and it seemed pretty typical but It’s a routine set up by someone else that I just have to follow. Pure mental laziness on this one. It’s the only way I think I can stick to a routine.

So, now I’ve gotten you all up to date on my thoughts over the past few days. I also have a post I wrote earlier today in notepad.  I’m going to post it seperately then go do what the other post says ;)

Best Wishes to All

~*Nancy*~

P.S. I’m going to weigh in when I go to the treadmill and post it right here

274.0

:)

Well I was going to treat myself to something when I hit 20lbs but I think I’ll count last night for that. My sister came over and dyed my hair and her hair and then we sat around and ate nachos … My hair’s so pretty now *pets* hehe

Today I have to write a 4 page paper that is 30% of my grade, present its conclusion in class, run from class to practice.
Tomorrow I have work in the afternoon, ending at 6pm, and I will probably have to be already dressed etc ready for warm up by 6 or 6:30. That’s gonna be fun… We’ll find out the time tonight.
Thursday I have work in the morning and I’ll have to be dressed & ready at the same time as tomorrow.
Friday afternoon I have my math final.
Some time before friday afternoon I have to go to the college & take my literature final.
Sometime before tomorrow night I have to put the hem in my skirt.

As far as exercise goes I haven’t been doing much for a while. This week is finals week, I’ll have much more free time soon. I will get back on track with my running this weekend.

For the past few days I’ve been trying to keep what I eat to 3 dairy (incl soy substitutes), 3 meats, as many fruit and veg as I can fit in :P, 6 grain servings, as much whole as I can. I’m trying to only imbibe in sweets or less healthy foods like chips if it’s a social occasion. It’s almost working :)

I’m a Marathon runner in training :)

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 9th November 2007

WOW that feels good.

Tomorrow is supposed to be our first run.

I don’t know whether or not I have any regular readers, but if I do, you’ve probably noticed that lately I’ve gotten REALLY bad about posting daily. Even when I do catch up my posts they’re only half done and lately I’ve just posted one post for a few days.

I want you all to know that there’s a REALLY Good reason for all of this. :)

I don’t know whether or not I mentioned that I moved into my new room, it was a tuesday. Then on saturday I mentioned that I moved furniture. Well now I’m mostly moved into my new room but I’m still all mixed up. The closet isn’t finished yet so all my day clothes are still in the other side along with my shoes. When we moved the dresser I got sick of hauling drawers so I left four of them in the other room. I moved a few that night but one is still in there, my socks. It acctually has worked pretty well to have them over there with my shoes and day clothes.  But everything’s all mixed up and stuff is missing cause only my furniture and what was in the drawers has been moved. Two of the nightstands that were in my room don’t belong in there and they have a bunch of stuff of mine in them. I still have to find a place for all of it along with all my stuff I’ve been keeping on the floor and in cardboard boxes. I am determined not to let my new room become a rat hole. This is the reason I haven’t been posting much.

A few nights ago I saw a program on PBS, they took a group of 12 highly sedentary people and trained them over the course of 40 weeks to run a marathon. Only one had to drop out, due to medical issues. They added another to the team a while into training. All twelve that made it to the race completed it, three of them took nearly seven hours, but they all made it. I was highly inspired by this program and I was telling my mother about it the next day, we decided we wanted to try it. I took their training calendar and adjusted it to start in december after my college classes would be over, it put the marathon in september. I e-mailed this calendar to my sisters and mom, to feel it out, see if I could maybe slowly warm people up to the idea of doing this with me, The two who got the e-mail (one doesn’t have internet right now) were both pretty excited, my sister who lives 300 miles away asked me where this marathon was… I sorowfully had to tell her I hadn’t found one yet. She jumped right on the wagon and helped me find one that would be somewhat convenient for all of us, it’s in the city (Salt lake city utah) where she and #4 (sister w/o net right now) live and the rest of us visit fairly often. There was a problem though, the marathon is in April, we were trying to decide if we could push ourselves that hard, to be able to run 26 miles that soon. I shifted the calendar to start right away, but that still put the marathon mark quite far past April 19th. When looking at course information I discovered that they allowed walk-a-marathon participants, I had already thought of this, but I didn’t know if it was allowed. I was about to suggest it when I saw the half-marathon category. PERFECT! I thought.. So I suggested it to everyone and we all think we can do it. Now, acctually doing the training is going to be the tough part. My sister’s sister-in law (her husband’s sister) lives just a block from where I work and wants to do this with us, we think. We’re really hoping to be able to stick with it and spread this infection, the bigger we can get our group, the more dedicated we will all be, to eachother and the race. This re-writing the training calendar has been what has been tying up my computer time lately. Now it’s finished. We’re all really excited, my oldest sister is going to be in town tomorrow, we can all do our first run together! Mom e-mailed me back and said “I’ll try, but there ain’t no way I can run 1-2 miles yet.” Just so you all know, she has the best (or next to) grammar of anyone I know.. the wording was to be funny. Anyway, with her in on it, there’s almost nothing that’s gonna stop me from doing this. EEK! I just remembered.. :D Liz i think is comming too! OMG so exciting… but dad will prolly be weird about it… oh well… what comes, comes, if others stop because of people in their life, they do, but I don’t plan to.  I want to spread this infection as far as I can. We’ve started an online group for our running group, if anyone here wants to do the training and have online connections I’ll start up a second one for our Virtual Running Group :)

Maintaining internet stuff should become easier for me. I’m going to be getting a computer in my room soon. Before it was basically like I had one in my room, it was in the next room, but now I’m across the house. After Dec 7th my time will free up immensely. Unless I do something crazy like take calculus ;) WHEE… stop me before I hit the wall :P jk… :D

<3 <3

Wishing you all the very best

Nancy

(Don’t forget to let me know if you want me to start this group)

Health tips gone bad & Portion Distortion

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 3rd November 2007

What happened to all those good health habits my parents taught me over the years?

Don’t eat sugar when you’re sick. Never eat sugar before a meal. Eat your veggies. Cookies (icecream, cake)  are a treat, don’t eat a lot of them. etc

Oh … right, they don’t police what I eat anymore. *sigh* I guess I only ever did them because they didn’t want me to.

On another note, some that HAVE stuck with me

Don’t drink soda, it will eat your teeth and bones.  Drink your milk (I’d really like to… honest). Brush your teeth. Cover your mouth when you cough. (more for OTHER’s health)

It’s interesting to see which habits stuck and which ones didn’t.

 Ok .. Food Journal

“Breakfast” (do I dare call it that?)

Cookies & Iced Coffee… inspiration for that bit about the sugar and health habits up top.

I ate the cookies til it seemed like I’d had enough, turns out it was 4 servings. Looks like I’m suffering from Portion Distortion. I noticed this yesterday too, what I’d view as a normal amount of soup was 2 servings.  On another note… I tend to underestimate a serving of chips like cheetoes, but overestimate on flat chips like potato chips & corn chips.

I was watching tv while I cleaned up in my room a few nights ago. A program was on pbs, they took 13 people with highly sedentary lifestyles and over the course of 40 weeks trained them up for a marathon. Only one dropped out, a diabetic woman who got shin splints that were taking a long time to heal. The other 12 finished the marathon. It was pretty inspiring. I was telling my mom about it, she said we should try it. I’m going to see if I can find their (or a similar) training schedule :). I found 18-week and 22-week “walk a marathon” schedules. http://www.pbs.org/americaswalking/health/health18week.html

I think this was saturday but … I don’t remember if i ate anything else.

Oh right.. dad made cookies :P hehe then The girls made cookies. Then mom made dinner… or was that sunday …yeah that was sunday… did i eat on saturday? I honestly can’t remember… that’s what I get for finishing posting saturday on tuesday.

Oh oh i remember… mom & I got those pizzas from the store… from the refrigeration case, next to the cheese… Mmm.. fluffy bread. =/ I ate like 6 peices.

Feel The Burn

Not gonna post it in detail … Halloween Pitfall : 26.5 Everybody was doin it! My major malfunction… Group activity. It can be a benefit as well though, when I’m at a party where nobody’s really eating, I feel weird eating so that helps me avoid stuff.

I skipped dinner. *faux slap*

This morning when I woke up I decided to revert to an exercise plan I haven’t used since I was 13. That’s also the only time I ever lost more than a couple pounds. I’m doing it with a new twist though. As a result of this I probably won’t meet my walking goal. Maybe I’ll shift it down to 100 miles instead of 500.

I have a few basic exercises, 2 types of crunches, scissor leg lifts (idk what they’re really called), cross touching toes while extending the other arm behind, and push ups. All of these but push-ups I did 31 reps of. Tomorrow I’ll do 31 as well, 30 + 1, it’s the 1st. on the 2nd I’ll do 32, In December I’ll do 60 + the date. As for push ups, I really can’t even do one, so I’m doing “desk push-ups”, they’re on an angle so you don’t have to resist your full weight. I’m not sure exactly how I’ll increment these, probably just do as many as I can stand every day. Once I get more fit I’ll put jumping jacks back in, the impact is too much for my knees right now.

Busy Tuesday

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 23rd October 2007

First, I woke up, then I cuddled back into bed and listened to the radio, falling asleep and waking back up for a while. Then I finally got out of bed, Sorted my laundry, put the first batch in & headed to the treadmill. Getting ready to get on the treadmill annoyed me, I don’t know why. Putting on socks and shoes with my PJs is a bit weird, but I do it everytime I treadmill. Then my cd player didn’t have any batteries in it. Then once I finally got on there I realized I forgot my shorts, I slept in a long knit nightshirt. I have to wear shorts or pants of some kind when I walk or my legs rub eachother raw. So, once I found some shorts, I got back on. Then, when I was almost up to one lap (1/4 mile) I accidentally pulled the magnet off. It stopped cold.  Good to know the safety mechanism works, but it was a shock to the system.

For those who have never seen this, some treadmils (all for all I know, this is the only one I’ve ever seen) have a “key” that you have to use to make it go. This one is a magnet on a nylon cord and on the other end is a clip to clip to yourself. The idea is, if you fall off, the magnet pulls off, and it stops.

Once I got going again it was great. I varied between 3 and 3.5 mph depending on what pace fit the beat of my music better. It’s funny because at first it was every other song 3, 3.5, then as I got going i just stayed at 3.5 for a while, then went down to 3, and then my mile was done :).

SO.. Treadmill stats
Laps: 4 - almost
Distance: 1 mile
Time: under 20 mins, not sure exact cause of the reset after lap 1
No lap breakdown cause I switched the speed every 3-5 minutes :P

I calculated that if I walk 1 mile every day I’ll only get about half my goal. Right now I’m walking like 1 mile a week. So, I’ve got to up frequency and duration of my workouts! :)

Breakfast, 11 am : 1 1/2 C Kirkland Signature (Costco store brand) organic rasin bran with appx 1c Soymilk. The rasins in KS rasin bran are not rolled in sugar :) and there are more of them in the cereal as compared to other brands, according to them. Unfortunately, as these are a new item, I can’t find them on the web. We always take everything out of boxes & bags & put them in air-tight plastic storage containers, this helps keep spills down and freshness up. I’ll have to copy down the nutrition info when I go shopping tomorrow.

KS Raisin Bran Nutri Info per 1 cup 210 cal 1g fat 7g fiber

I don’t shop at costco, but our little local store is primarily stocked from Costco. Anything I can’t get there I go across the highway to a not-as-little store that is a FoodTown their store-brand items are labled “Western Family” (known as Shur-Fine in the east).

So… Lunch was… like a cup of leftover stir fry from yesterday, no rice. I almost forgot to include it :P

Dinner: Slice of wheat bread and the .. eh.. stuff .. I made for dinner hehe. Whatever that was… It was tasty, lets try to calculate nutrition information. (”recipe” in seperate post)

Took a walk with mom after dinner, about 20 mins.

Treats! This cookie that was Keebler Cheesecake Dipper or something like that and then I was tasting these puff thingies then I turned over the bag & saw the nutrition info & stopped. They tasted like popcorn, but not oily or salty, and a bit sweet. They kinda tasted like nothing at all.

Motivation :)

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 21st October 2007

Hooray for goals!

By Dec 6th I NEED to fit into this blouse (or one of my smaller ones).

White Blouse

It fit last year so it shouldn’t be too hard. I’m acctually hoping to wear my one with the ruffles down the front which hasnt fit in 2 years.

and I’d really like to fit into this skirt (isn’t it gorgeous?).

Long Black Skirt

Two years ago (as of the date I want to wear it) I bought this skirt. When we laundered it according to the lable, it ruined it. We brought it back to the store to show them what had happened to AT LEAST let them warn other people and hopefully get at least a partial refund. I was a bit surprised when they gave us an exchange, but the only one left was smaller than the one I had, so, two years ago, this was too small, and I’m bigger now.

and I’m looking forward to the day I can wear this suit again.

Silver Suit

My sister bought it for me for highschool graduation. You can’t see it very well, the skirt is on the same hanger as the top, but the skirt is mostly plain so I didn’t bother moving it.

Baby Carrots & Milky Way

Posted by MagicalShrinkingNancy on 18th October 2007

Ok, first day back and boy did I eat a lot today. I’m not necessarily proud of it, but I’m not gonna beat myself up over my first day especially when I decided to try again AFTER I had eaten most of this junk :)

10 am-ish
Costco Muffin
Starbucks Iced Coffee
sometime… Milky way o.o Sugar attack!
noon:
Two Pepperoni Pizza Pockets
String Cheese
less than 1 serving lays potato chips
11pm:
Big bowl of salad with way more dressing than I meant to put on it lol, theres still some in the bowl
baby carrots - yum yum =) almost as good as munching on peanut m&ms with NO GUILT =D
glass of soymilk

Eeepsalot… I stepped on the UPSTAIRS scale, 288.5. Kucky. That thing usually weighs me as 6-8lbs more than mom’s, which is what I usually use.  But thats still up a lot during my quit time.

Some plans/goals for myself for this attempt:

I’m going to see if I can un-officially follow weight-watchers points. According to the calculator on Roni’s page (TYVM) I should be eating about 35 points. This sounds REALLY high to me compared with the numbers I see on peoples blogs, but I’ll see how that stacks up with what I eat, assuming I can figure out how to calculate points for what I eat.

Drink 1 cup of soymilk a day

Get on the treadmill at least twice a week.

Take my calcium pills every day - I acctually continued this while I was not posting, so it should go well :)

Points Calculated with Roni’s Calculator (assuming I input it correctly)

If anyone wants to correct my points calculations or help me out on any of this, you would be very much appreciated :)

We’ll see how this goes :-D

So begins Nancy’s 2nd attempt at some magic.
