WOW that feels good.
Tomorrow is supposed to be our first run.
I don’t know whether or not I have any regular readers, but if I do, you’ve probably noticed that lately I’ve gotten REALLY bad about posting daily. Even when I do catch up my posts they’re only half done and lately I’ve just posted one post for a few days.
I want you all to know that there’s a REALLY Good reason for all of this.
I don’t know whether or not I mentioned that I moved into my new room, it was a tuesday. Then on saturday I mentioned that I moved furniture. Well now I’m mostly moved into my new room but I’m still all mixed up. The closet isn’t finished yet so all my day clothes are still in the other side along with my shoes. When we moved the dresser I got sick of hauling drawers so I left four of them in the other room. I moved a few that night but one is still in there, my socks. It acctually has worked pretty well to have them over there with my shoes and day clothes. But everything’s all mixed up and stuff is missing cause only my furniture and what was in the drawers has been moved. Two of the nightstands that were in my room don’t belong in there and they have a bunch of stuff of mine in them. I still have to find a place for all of it along with all my stuff I’ve been keeping on the floor and in cardboard boxes. I am determined not to let my new room become a rat hole. This is the reason I haven’t been posting much.
A few nights ago I saw a program on PBS, they took a group of 12 highly sedentary people and trained them over the course of 40 weeks to run a marathon. Only one had to drop out, due to medical issues. They added another to the team a while into training. All twelve that made it to the race completed it, three of them took nearly seven hours, but they all made it. I was highly inspired by this program and I was telling my mother about it the next day, we decided we wanted to try it. I took their training calendar and adjusted it to start in december after my college classes would be over, it put the marathon in september. I e-mailed this calendar to my sisters and mom, to feel it out, see if I could maybe slowly warm people up to the idea of doing this with me, The two who got the e-mail (one doesn’t have internet right now) were both pretty excited, my sister who lives 300 miles away asked me where this marathon was… I sorowfully had to tell her I hadn’t found one yet. She jumped right on the wagon and helped me find one that would be somewhat convenient for all of us, it’s in the city (Salt lake city utah) where she and #4 (sister w/o net right now) live and the rest of us visit fairly often. There was a problem though, the marathon is in April, we were trying to decide if we could push ourselves that hard, to be able to run 26 miles that soon. I shifted the calendar to start right away, but that still put the marathon mark quite far past April 19th. When looking at course information I discovered that they allowed walk-a-marathon participants, I had already thought of this, but I didn’t know if it was allowed. I was about to suggest it when I saw the half-marathon category. PERFECT! I thought.. So I suggested it to everyone and we all think we can do it. Now, acctually doing the training is going to be the tough part. My sister’s sister-in law (her husband’s sister) lives just a block from where I work and wants to do this with us, we think. We’re really hoping to be able to stick with it and spread this infection, the bigger we can get our group, the more dedicated we will all be, to eachother and the race. This re-writing the training calendar has been what has been tying up my computer time lately. Now it’s finished. We’re all really excited, my oldest sister is going to be in town tomorrow, we can all do our first run together! Mom e-mailed me back and said “I’ll try, but there ain’t no way I can run 1-2 miles yet.” Just so you all know, she has the best (or next to) grammar of anyone I know.. the wording was to be funny. Anyway, with her in on it, there’s almost nothing that’s gonna stop me from doing this. EEK! I just remembered..
Liz i think is comming too! OMG so exciting… but dad will prolly be weird about it… oh well… what comes, comes, if others stop because of people in their life, they do, but I don’t plan to. I want to spread this infection as far as I can. We’ve started an online group for our running group, if anyone here wants to do the training and have online connections I’ll start up a second one for our Virtual Running Group
Maintaining internet stuff should become easier for me. I’m going to be getting a computer in my room soon. Before it was basically like I had one in my room, it was in the next room, but now I’m across the house. After Dec 7th my time will free up immensely. Unless I do something crazy like take calculus
WHEE… stop me before I hit the wall
jk…

Wishing you all the very best
Nancy
(Don’t forget to let me know if you want me to start this group)
