Couch to 5k?
Well, I told Ronji that I might start a “couch to 5k” training program for her May activity challenge.
So last night, I found one online and printed it out. This morning, I hit the treadmill at the gym. I did the “brisk 5-minute warmup walk.” Then I alternated 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking — six times, which by the calculations I just took the time to do was 15 minutes … with the 5-minute cool-down I completed, I actually was on the treadmill for 25 minutes instead of the 20 prescibed.
Wow! I guess that means I just completed the first of my three Couch to 5k sessions for the week. Yipee! I wasn’t sure I could do it, but I did. It wasn’t easy. I was gasping for air at the end of each running burst, and I didn’t really want to do that last one (Turns out I probably didn’t have to) … but I DID IT!!! With the additional 25 minutes of walking and 10 minutes of biking I did, I earned 7 APs.
I’m patting myself on the back. Though I’d kind of planned to hit the gym for a weights class and then the boot camp express class that immediately followed it, I’m glad I ended up doing the C25k thing instead.
Now, the big challenge will be trying to not let the munchies derail the rest of my day. So far, I’ve eaten about 13 Points, and have 15 left. If I have a 0-Point dessert with lunch and a couple of small snacks, I should be able to keep things under control.
It’s time to make up some more SF Jell-O cups. I bought some of those little 1/2 cup Gladware containers and fill them with Jell-O from a box … it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the pre-made cups. I guess that’s a Food Find. I’ll file it as such.
GREAT idea with the Jello. I hadn’t thought of that. Think I’ll start doing it. Thanks for the idea!
Also, great job on starting the C25k running plan. I plan to start in June. Is this the one you are doing?

Couch to 5K….what a great plan….I love to run 5K’s. It’s the perfect workout to start with because it’s long enough to get a good workout…but not so long you don’t think you will make it!! As I get stronger I try to go faster and faster with 5K as my mark….
I am so glad you are going to start…once you get into it and really start to develop as a runner you will never look back…unless you run by a really cute guy of course
If you need any help or motivation….just let me know….I am here!!
Bonita, that looks like the one! Week 5 still scares me!
Thanks, Ronji! I’ll definitely need some motivation before I’m done, since I sometimes start things (all excited, of course) and then let the enthusiasm wane.
