Question of the week

Roni’s question of the week is “how did you pick your goal weight?”

That’s a very good question, since I’m not sure I actually HAVE picked a goal weight yet. Don’t get me wrong: I have a number floating around in my head. It’s 160, the goal weight I picked before I started the Atkins diet in 2003. It’s in the middle of my weight range, which tops out at 174 (and I think goes all the way into the 140s. Yeah, right … 145’s a number I’ll never see.).

It was a number I’d not seen, since my previous known low was 198, my senior year of high school, but I thought I might be able to get there.

I didn’t, though. I stalled out at 169, hovering between 169 and 172 for a few months before I fell off the low-carb wagon and started regaining (and avoiding the scale). It took me two years to climb back to 246 and join Weight Watchers.

When I did, my leader didn’t ask me to set a goal right away. We set the 10 percent goal (24 pounds) and it’s taken me quite some time to reach that one. We’ve talked about setting a second 10 percent goal (22 more pounds) before I settle on an ultimate one.

Still, that 160 is floating around in my head. I’m thinking I might be able to get there, someday, and if I do, I’ll probably be wearing some size 6s, but mostly 8s. (at 169, I was in 8s and 10s with one glorious, size 6 skirt, probably mis-sized, since it came from Ross).

Then again, perhaps 169 is where I’m meant to be. I think at that weight, my BMI is just below 25, which would take me out of the overweight category.

I’d rather aim just a little lower, though. (Not as low as my doctor suggested, though. He once told me that 150 wouldn’t be out of the question. 150? That at one time was Oprah’s goal weight, and she’s a good 3 inches shorter than I am! Not gonna happen!)
