Poor Diva and Bigger Picture Goals

16 01 2008

(If you don’t want to read about my dog, skip down to the next paragraph.) *yawn* I’m tired today. I didn’t sleep well last night. Diva (our black Pomeranian baby) had her teeth cleaned yesterday with 2 surprise teeth extractions. I guess due to their location, it’s about as enjoyable as us having our wisdom teeth removed. She’s in pain, and and her throat is irritated from being intubated during the procedure. The irritation causes her to cough honk for 5 minutes at a time. It’s so pitiful. She’s our baby since we don’t have babies. On top of me just not sleeping well, I was up and down with her last night. I’ve found that a dab of peanut butter soothes her little throat and stops the honking, at least for a little while. We’ve even got little doggy pain pills the vet gave us. It was strange seeing her all drugged up last night. It was like she was in a trance. Hopefully today she’ll be feeling better. I could tell she still didn’t feel well this morning and I made sure I loaded her up with more pain pills so she’ll sleep well. To top it off, the vet says she thinks Diva’s 2 years older than our original prediction (we adopted her and don’t know for sure how old she was at that time). I feel  like the vet told me I have 2 less years with my baby now! *insert knife into heart*

Okay, enough about my devotion to our dog.

I’ve been thinking about what different medium term goals I’d like to achieve for my health. I call them medium term because I consider a month short term and a few years long term. WH and I are going on a much needed cruise in May to the southern Caribbean. To be honest, I want to wear a 2 piece swimsuit- I’ve never worn one in public….EVER! I don’t know if bikini is the correct word, because I think I’ll have to wear something a little more modest. If nothing else I want to feel good about my body and flaunt it a bit for my husband. He deserves a hot momma for a wife!

  1. So my plan is to continue with this emphasis on strength training to tone and lift my poor sagging body. So far it’s been going really great! Hopefully if I keep this up, I’ll really like the improvements by May and won’t mind the 2 piece swimsuit!
  2. I want to wear a size 8 by May. I think this is pretty reasonable since I comfortably fit into a size 10 now and I’ve really kicked it up in the gym.
  3. I’d like to reach my personal goal weight of 145 (I lowered it a couple pounds) by June 15. From today that’s 13.5 more pounds to lose. I CAN do it!
  4. I’m going to walk in a 5K this quarter. Previously I had blogged about wanting to jog in a 5K once a quarter so I was always working towards a race and improving my time. The docs have said to lay off the jogging for a few months. So once I’m off the meds (read below) in mid April, hopefully I can start training again. So my other option…walk!

I have a few challenges ahead of me. This past week I started prescribed medication that makes me retain water and minerals (to help prevent fainting) and salt tablets. Yeah, a recipe for weight gain, and I did gain this week again. I’m up another 0.5 pounds. This week I’m really concentrating on sticking to the program. I need to get further away from my WW goal weight so I don’t run into any danger of going over. Plus I just want to lose more weight. But I know it’s going to be more challenging than it was before the salt tablets and meds.

I know it was a long post, but thanks for stopping by. Have a great OP day!
