Please Share Your Holiday Eating Tips (For all those goodies we’re trying to resist)

Here’s something that’s worked well for me. Have you ever lusted over some brownies or cake and finally given in, only to be disappointed in how it tastes? Especially if you saved points to eat it? Remember that disappointment when you lust over holiday treats and goodies. Tell yourself that although it looks really good, it probably doesn’t taste all that great. And think about that specific time you were disappointed. This helps keep me from even wanting to taste something. Once I get a taste and it IS good, it’s hard not to go back for seconds…or thirds…or more. Of course this doesn’t work for every treat, but at least this way you’ll save points for things you really know will be worth it. Maybe this tip will help! Good luck with whatever strategy you use-we all need it this time of year! (c:

Do you have any holiday eating tips you could share?

When attending a pitch-in or dinner, I always do a walk by to see what the choices are, step back, decide what I’m going to eat and then get in line. If there is something I want to try that I know is most likely “high fat, high calorie” I will only take a taste — about a tablespoon (no more than 3 small bites). I also keep in mind the “thumb rule”. You should be able to run you thumb all the way around the rim of the plate without getting any food on your thumb. When they do our dinner here at work (not a pitch in but catered) I always check to see what is on the menu before hand (usually well before hand) so I know what I will be putting on my plate before I join the line.

For Thanksgiving in particular, my leader told me that if I was unable to resist not trying everything, then I should put one spoonful onto my plate of each item I HAD to eat. If it was so good after eating all the spoonfuls that I had to go back for seconds, then I could, but only a spoonful! I managed to make it through Thanksgiving week with a loss, no doubt in part due to her spoon strategy!
