Hi, I’m Bret.
I am a 30 year old lady, married to a wonderful fella, with a beautiful step daughter, and challenging myself for the fight of my life: Heart healthy at 140 lbs.
Currently, I’m 5′ 7,” 175 lbs with a Banker’s Butt that’s looking to take over the Pacific Northwest.
In my corner are my wonderful family members:
- Mick, my rock solid supporter and husband
- Courtney, my courageous and inspiring daughter
- Ruth (aka Mom), personal Chiropractor, workout partner, friend and a woman who at 60 has a hotter body than I do at 30 - what gives? Supposedly, same genetics!?!
- Jake, my Dog, the motivator and cheerleader
What we’re up against:
- Prehypertension
- High HDL Cholesterol = 95 (Desirable or High is > 60) - “Good” cholesterol
- LDL Cholesterol = 81 (Best is <100) - “Bad” cholesterol, artery clogging stuff.
- Total Cholesterol = 176 (Optimal is < 200)
- High Triglycerides = 225 (Normal is < to 150)
- Mild heart murmur
- Family history of High Blood Pressure & Heart Disease
Explanation: While my cholesterol levels are within normal or supposedly good chart brackets, the combination I have is not optimal. Add, to that combo: high triglycerides and a family history of heart disease and it puts me in the “not so good” bracket. I’ve been told by my medical professionals that I need to change my life! Translation eat healthier, lose weight, and keep up the active lifestyle. It’s been suggested that I add more stretch and strength building exercises to what I already incorporate (running, soccer, skiing, softball, etc).
This blog is about my heart healthy challenge to live a better and fuller life. I love my family and want to be around for them for a very long time. My goal is to make our live’s rich with love, be healthy, and make it to our 60th Wedding Anniversary (in 2066)!
