I’m so pi~~ed!

I’m blogging instead of eating! I’m so heated right now! Long story~I’ll give you the basics! My sitter got the flu~I understand, everyone gets sick. She calls to tell me this at 3AM on Monday! (And chimes in that she has been ill all weekend) Couldn’t have called me Sunday night so I could make arrangements?!~Gets worse! Then she calls me again on Tuesday at 4AM~still sick (Well, smart me had already counted on this happening and had already made plans to stay home with the toddler!) Then today, I take the toddler to “school”, daycare whatever. I ask the sitter how much do I owe this week~since YOU were out sick? She tells me the SAME amount as always! WHAT?! I’m paying YOU for you being sick and I HAVE TO REARRANGE things AND NOT GO TO WORK! Keep in mind if my toddler is ever sick I pay the same amount for the days she was out, I have to pay her and not take the toddler on 10 holidays through out the year! And to top it all off~in her handbook she said she would always provide a sub teacher for the days she couldn’t be there (EX: sick!) Am I crazy or is this looney?! So~to top it off I’m looking for another daycare! Please let me know if you think I’m out of line!

    I’ve never had a child in daycare so I don’t know what the standards are, but this does sound like BS to me! Good luck!

I watch two children and she definitely should not be charging you for days that she was sick, if I were you I would just subtract the days she was out from her pay and bring her handbook along when you pay her so you can whip it out and ask where her replacement was. She also should have called over the weekend to let you know that she was possibly still going to be sick on Monday so you could make other arrangements. I feel some sympathy b/c I know I feel really guilty when I have to tell my day care kids’ mom to let her know that I am sick and I have tried to stick it out before only to call about 2 hrs before she had to go to work.
    It totally sounds like she is taking advantage with the pay thing, that is insane. If she had a contract or handbook that said she had X amt of sick days that would be something else but if that is not something you signed for then she should not be charging you.
