Started Weight Watchers….
Posted by Froggy on April 13th, 2008
I signed up yesterday, and so far so good. I think I understand how it all works…that earning points for activity thing is cool. and what is with the WEEKLY POINTS? Are those extra points I can use throughout the week guilt free? How cool is that?
I told one of the trainers at the gym today that I joined and he looked puzzled. He asked why I didn’t just see Donna at the gym to get my food plan…I told him that she didn’t offer enough variety, and that I hated counting calories. And she doesn’t respond to questions quilckly or offer many recipe ideas….the weight watchers site lets me find something new any time I want it!
It was disheartening for him to react that way, I felt like he was dissappointed somehow. I don’t get why…HE follows the eating plan that Donna’s given him, so I guess he just thinks it’s good enough. He made a remark about eating Big Macs….
I don’t honestly like Big Macs…but even if I did I know I can find the points value, add it to my daily list, and be on my way.. I actually think I would feel too much guilt if I did that though, so the fact that they aren’t a favorite of mine saves me the grief!
Do any of you run into people who do that to you? He is someone I consider a friend so I was bummed at his reaction. I guess I thought he would think it’s cool. I do. That is really all that matters. That and the fact that I finally know I can do this. The eating plan at the gym was a great start for me…but it’s not a way of life I can maintain…it’s too very strict and too well….blah.
Help me bloggers!!! I need some words of wisdom, or comfort…something.
On the flip side, I got to the gym Saturday AND Sunday this weekend, great for me to make it both days. Cardio both days, and circuit on Saturday. Whew! I don’t do the circuit enough…gotta push myself to do it more often. Not sure what my issue is there….anyone else dealing with that?
Well…I better go finish folding laundry or we won’t have anything to wear tomorrow!

That IS disheartening and unfortunately I know exactly how you feel. It has been my experience, especially working with trainers from bigger gyms (24, Bally, Golds, etc.) that whatever service THEY provide is the absolute BEST and everyone should do it! It’s like it ceases to become about fitness and being healthy but people aren’t doing it THEIR way and THEIR way is the best! I mean, I’ll never forget working out with my old PT and she actually made fun of the people who come into the gym with magazine articles or whatever and do workouts based off stuff like Fitness magazine, etc. I was just shocked! I mean how dare she chastise someone for wanting to be healthy! And as long as you are going about it in a healthy way, then does it really matter if you are paying the mega bucks for a PT or following a guide from a magazine? NO! And it doesn’t matter if you follow WW or the meal plan from the “nutrionist” (they actually hardly ever are certified nutrionists anyways…they just plug some numbers into the computer) at the gym. As long as you are doing something good and healthy for yourself, then that’s all that matters! Don’t let others bring you down. Sometimes it becomes an ego thing and that’s when you know they have lost sight of what truly matters - one’s health. Keep up the good work and don’t even listen to people with negative advice or reactions! Sorry this was so long, lol!

Thank you SOOOOO much! I needed to hear that, and I agree completely!, it does seem like that’s what they are trying to do…sell their program….and I know she isn’t a certified nutritionist, and I’ve SEEN her plugging the numbers into the program on her computer.
In fact, about 2 months ago I was reading The Flat Belly Diet by Prevention Magazine while on the treadmill and she saw me and loudly asked what the hell THAT was! I was mortified! It didn’t hurt my resolve, but it pissed me off to be honest! I thought the same thing you say, as long as someone is striving to be healthier, who are they to knock that?
Again, THANKS!!! I’m sticking to it!

I like WW because it works with my life. I remember having my PT plan out how I would workout, what I would eat and that was that. It all just didn’t work for me…it was fine for awhile but not something I could do forever…so all the weight came back…and then some. Kristi is right as long as you are doing something healthy for you…who cares where the information came from as long as it’s not some crazy peanut butter and cabbage diet that has you stand on your head for an hour every night. Go with what works, you will learn from it and make small changes so that you make it your own. Learn the lessons now so you can have a healthy life and live this way forever…that’s what important…learning and living!! Oh and that chunk of chocolate here and there…that’s important too

Well I may be biased because WW pretty much saved my life…but I am the type of person that CANNOT follow a “not allowed” program…meaning…if they tell me I can’t eat something, that is what I will want! So WW has been amazing because some days you WANT a big mac…so you have it. WW is something you can follow for the rest of your life, because it’s not about deprivation of any type of food, it’s about portion control and being aware of what you are putting into your body. If you ever have any program questions, feel free to ask…I’m sure a lot of us in the community can answer just about every question you may have!

I personaly like WW too. Although I do not go to meetings or pay dues only b/c they don’t offer enough meetings in my community(I have gone at onetime to meetings and done the online tracking). It works well, I follow the plan at home I have all my books and my support group is you guys. In a way I attend a meeting everyday, everytime I log on and visit everyones blogs and jot my own things down, this is my meeting. I weigh myself every Weds morn and thats my WI. WW is the only thing that has worked for me
I like the variety and we can eat and do what ever we want we are in control of our own destiny we just have to count it
!! It’s all very simple to follow, its about a lifestyle change WW is not a diet or short term program to help you lose fast, it’s designed as a change you have to make the changes to live a healthier lifestyle.
