Posted by dnbarton on 31st January 2008

Well today is Jan 31 (I can hardly believe it!).

My Jan Junk Free… wasn’t entirely junk free…

but I have a lot of thoughts and conclusions that have come from the experience attempt and I’m hoping some of the other ladies who participated do as well…

tomorrow I will post a reflective journal and include anyone else’s thoughts… Hurray for February!

CORE Day 2

Posted by dnbarton on 29th January 2008

Well here I am. I survived one day on CORE. And maybe, just maybe, I’m becoming more of a believer! (:

Here’s my deliemma… EATING OUT. As I mentioned yesterday, I am a picky eater. Don’t like many vegetables… don’t like onions, peppers, tomatoes, etc… so. How do I eat out and stay on plan? Pizza is deadly for me (although I did maintain control last night!)… fast food (usually Taco Bell) is tough… cause even if I bought one of their “bowls” I hardly like anything on it.. talk about no flavor… Hmmm… pondering this one… maybe I should just EAT AT HOME! but that’s not very feasable for my lifestyle….

Here’s my food so far…

Food Core/Pts
Oatmeal CORE
chicken salad (3 cups) w/ (1/2 cup) corn & ff dressing, tortillachips CORE +1 FP
applesauce CORE
sf pudding CORE
1 cup milk CORE
WW Core homemade Pesto Sauce, Chicken, WW Spaghetti CORE
Sweet Potato Fries (Olive Oil) CORE

Popcorn; sf pudding

Fruits & Veggies (nursing moms need 8!!) 7/8
Healthy Oils (2) 2/2
Protein 2 /2
Dairy (3) 3 /3

Daily Activity: Step Aerobics (w/ 1 less set of brick)

24 /35 Flex Points Left

Also I have decided to take one set of “bricks” out of my step during Step Aerobics to see how my knees react. Lunges REALLY hurt and I’ve noticed stepping up is also painful. Someone suggested that the two sets of bricks might have something to do with it, so I’m trying to see if this helps. Also I am stepping up the number of times per week that I do “Group Power” my weight lifting class, and cutting one cardio out. I feel like my knees need to be strengthened and a little less “stressed”… hopefully this helps!

C.O.R.E has begun!

Posted by dnbarton on 29th January 2008

C an anyone really do this??

O n plan means no carbs???

R eally miss my freedom :-(

E www! I’m too picky of an eater for this!!!

Ok… maybe that was a bit extreme… I’ve been dreading starting on CORE because I am such a picky eater and I have been afraid that I will miss the foods I love, like bean burritos. I know I have the extra 35 flex points but I usually save those for a night out to dinner or special treat. Now I need to divide them up over my whole week so I have a few flexies each day. Sounds tough!

However… TODAY WASN’T TOO BAD!!! (I know, big shocker!) I have eaten OP and used 4 flex points… an old friend came to town and we went to pizza. Great way to end my first day ): w/ 6 more FP’s… but at least I ate in moderatioin!… and I feel great!

It’s not over… :-(

Posted by dnbarton on 27th January 2008

Well dh woke up at 2 am vomiting his guts out.  I guess he got it from dd.

Unfortunately, his parents both got it from him and they were up all night puking as well.

This is a NASTY bug!  There are over 20 people in my church who have had it and my Pastor threw up today during service, his daughter was at home throwing up, and his older daughter is now throwing up :-( such a drag! I PRAY PRAY PRAY that I don’t get this thing.  I don’t even know how I could function w/ an active 10 month old and that bug!

So needless to say I am still heading to shopping this evening after evening service (I have to get to! play piano when my Pastor’s Wife is gone)  and I am still planning on starting CORE tomorrow. (Against my will!)  I spent some time  yesterday researching it and looking for meal ideas, and it’s tough because I am such a picky eater! But I promised Allison that I would try it for a week or two.

I plan to write a reflecting journal in the next couple days on my struggle w/ the Jan-Junk-Free challenge… and just what I learned.  I’m proud to hear that

  • Boiler Chick is still going strong!
  • LauraD struggled and then jumped back on track! Good for her!
  • Bonita   made some strong choices this last week and kept away from sweet breakfast foods!
  • Kim  has killed the binging track and made some good choices as she struggled with being hungry hungry hungry!
  • Julie made a good choice to not binge on Mexican food when she went out to dinner w/ dh!
  • Tania looks like she’s going strong, in spite of some nasty sinus junk!

I wish I had as strong of a week as these awesome ladies!  Good work guys! I will post more about how I feel about his whole month… More to come! (:

I think the insanity is over… (cross my fingers!)

Posted by dnbarton on 26th January 2008

Life seems to have returned to a some-what  normal state!  I did 5 or 6 loads of laundry today…. my  washer has been frozen (it’s in our garage) and I was unable to do puke/diarrhea laundry for 3 days!  My landlord let me use their washer (upstairs) and my husband got mine working so I attacked it with a vengeance!  DD hasn’t gone #2 since 9 this morning so I”m HOPING we are thru with the sickness!!

Today I weighed in. EXACTLY the same.  Not up, Not down. Discouraging after the last 2 months I have held w/in 3 lbs… Allison and I are going to do CORE, starting tomorrow (I have to grocery shop…) and I think it is going to be REALLY hard for me. But that’s ok.. I need SOMETHING to get me on track.

I don’t feel like I”ve been doing bad in the eating OR working-out department…. so this has been quite frustrating to me…

A girlfriend mentioned something that totally rang a bell w/ me… BIRTHCONTROL.  I have been on the mini-pill for (I think..) about 2-3 month. DING!!!!!! That’s got to be it.  I remember reading that it can cause weight gain… probably the only reason I haven’t gained is because I am working so hard to lose.  Now the big dilemma… what to do??? I’m trying to lose weight, so I can get pg and be healthy and w/in my range… but this darn BC is hindering my progress.  So what should I do? Quit BC?? Then I might get pg and then I CAN’T lose weight… Keep on BC and possibly NOT lose weight… A friend suggested an IUD… but I really would like to get pregnant in the next 3-4 months… and it seems silly to get one for such a short time…  I DON”T KNOW… All i know is I desperately want to lose this last 12 lbs before getting pregnant.  I CAN DO IT! And I want to feel good in my pregnancy…

[sigh]

Ok… that’s all for now.  DD is still awake and won’t go down till I’m off the computer! Must say good night.  Back to journaling and accountability HARD CORE… tomorrow! (:

Another quick post…

Posted by dnbarton on 26th January 2008

1st it was vomiting Wed night and all day Thursday… today it was diarrhea… ug. I’m done with baby bodily functions exploding all over me! [enough said! I know!]

Ate ok today. Definitely got in ALL my water and then some! And all my fruits and veggies as I had this AWESOME chicken salad for lunch and dinner. Grazed a little too much, but that’s to be expected at the inlaws. Thank goodness they didn’t have sweets (a phenomenon!) around I would have been in BIG TROUBLE!

My knees are absolutely KILLING me. I have an appt to get them and my wrists checked at the beginning of February… I can barely walk upstairs… it’s such a drag.  I hope it’s not a long term problem.

That’s all for tonight.  I”m exhausted and feel like I haven’t seen dh in days! Good night!

Quick post…

Posted by dnbarton on 24th January 2008

Well I’m just jotting a quick post to stay accountable… I was up all night with a vomitting baby.. and we just got home from the drs where we had to force pedia lite down her throat for an hour… ): Poor baby…. On top of that we had NO WATER all day… which just complicated things like showering & washing multiple towels and blankets covered in vomit! UG.

Anyways… missed the gym today because of that.. and will miss tomorrow as well… ):

Here’s a quick list of food thus far…

raisin bran w/ milk, turkey sandwich, apple, popcorn (98% ff), 7 ritz crackers, milk

My mother in law is making me dinner right now…

Posted by dnbarton on 23rd January 2008

kicked my butt today in step aerobics… I sweated sooo hard!  Someone suggested switching my exercise because I am at a stand-still… but nothing makes me sweat as hard or go as long as step… I tried kick boxing and it just seemed too mellow…. there aren’t too many options as far as classes at my gym… classes push me a LOT harder than I push myself….
