Smaller Bites

Recently I had crown work done at the dentist. The temporary crown doesn’t fit very well and I can only chew very small bites at a time until I get the permanent crown next week.  I now realize how conditioned I’ve become to shoveling in large scoops of food regardless of how slow I eat. It’s been something of an epiphany.

Note to Self: It’s not enough to slow down when eating, it’s also important to pay attention to how much is on that spoon or fork! Eating should not be some kind of competitive race for me even when my day is hectic. Smaller bites + set the fork down between bites = feeling full faster.



Frozen Grapes

Frozen grapes never sounded good to me before but I can never eat a bunch of grapes before they go soft and rubbery so I thought what the heck, I’d give it a try.

I have to say, it was a huge success! Something about frozen seedless grapes make them taste sweeter than the fresh ones -  crunchy sweet ice crystal grapes. It’s hard to eat these things fast, so they seem to last longer than eating fresh grapes you feel like you are eating more points than you really are. I also don’t have to worry about the anything going to waste - frozen grapes keep so much longer. Just don’t let them thaw out - yeech!

Get off the couch, turn off the TV & computer and DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING that does not involve sitting. Go for a walk, go to the mall and window shop, clean a closet (lord knows they need it), do some photography, try out the new bicycle trainer, try an exercise video.  Just do it.

After a l-o-n-g hiatus I attended my first WW meeting of 2008 today and have lost all the holiday eating weight I gained between Thanksgiving and New Years.  In fact I’m only 1 lb away from my all time lowest weigh-in last year!  Since I’ve only been tracking food for the last week since mid October some good habits must have stuck!  To say the least I’m renewed and inspired. Go me!

I’m back. Thanksgiving to Christmas is a tough time for me, time to start over again. I’m going to start using the WW website to track food and see if that makes it easier for me because when I track I loose. I tend to hibernate in the winter as Michigan is pretty grey and gloomy. Still determined to stick with WW and get to a healthy weight.
