Dear Sisters,

I find much truth in the message below.
God be with you all.

Time passes
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don’t do what they’re supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.

BUT - Sisters are there, no matter how much time
and how many miles are between you.

A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her.

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk
it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley’s rim,
cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your
behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley’s end.

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you,
or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law,
sisters, sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, nieces,
cousins and extended family all bless our life.

When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of
the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead, nor did we know how much
we would need each other.

Every day, we need each other still.

Pass this on to all the women who help make your life
meaningful. I just did.

Feh! up 1 LB. at WI this morning :(

Dang! I just knew that potato salad binge would catch up with me. ….and
the two big glasses of white wine last night. So I’ve recommitted to
actually tracking points again. Not my favorite thing but it works.

How many sizes of cloths are in your closet?

24 07 2007

There is a perpetual “to-do” list that I keep and the one item that has been on this list for literally the last 10 years is to clean out my closet. I have every size from 12 to 24 in there - it’s overflowing, a crazy mess. But I just can’t seem to part with things - even the ones I know I’ll never wear again… like the black vest with Halloween pumpkins on it… or the 10 or so that still have a stain on the “shelf” front of the shirt even tho I’ve washed them a dozen times with every imaginable stain buster. Don’t forget the sweaters that have started to fray and the pants that never did fit correctly even when I was that size. Why oh why do I hang on to this stuff? I’m mental when it comes to throwing cloths away. I keep thinking I should hang on to smaller sizes because I’ll be wearing them again some day …right? Plus I’m a tight wad when it comes to spending $$. Yup I’m weird… and I just did the full circle justification thing too. But seriously, does anyone else have this problem?

What _IS_ this stuff?

23 07 2007

Anyone else having trouble getting your family to eat healthy food? My dear wonderful hubby looks mournfully at the zucchini, summer squash, onion, black bean, and melted shredded cheddar cheese mixture that I have filled the 1 pt tortilla’s with and wrinkles his nose like I scrapped it off the bottom of my shoe for dinner. Is this a WW thing? he asks in a wounded voice. What is this green and yellow stuff? he asks poking suspiciously at the zucchini and yellow squash like he is afraid it is going to move. He ate it like he was doing me a favor, but kept moaning about how he really doesn’t like zucchini and squash very much.

To be honest he is a very picky eater and makes most of his own meals of which velvetta cheese and hormel chili are usually the main ingredients. (Yelch!) I’ve found his discrimination towards anything “diet food” related to be a perk. I can purchase anything I want that has WW logo or “Fat-free” or “low-calorie” stamped on the box, bag or can because he will not touch them! Makes it hard to have meals together tho.

Go ME!

Down 2.8lb at WI this morning! Woo Hoo! Guess all that walking is starting to make a difference.

Double Dog Dare!

19 07 2007

I’ve always been somewhat competitive. Small goals so far have been personal challenges, but the double-dog dare is so much more fun! My little sister is also trying to change her health habits and also struggles with her weight (genetics MUST play some factor in all this..No?). I’ve been heavier than her for the last few years but my next goal is to catch up and pass her. So.. TJ, I’m on your tail and plan to pass you soon!

Me? Exercise? Surely you jest!

17 07 2007

Anyone else find themselves surprised that they have come to enjoy exercise? Six months ago the thought of walking around the block was pretty much a show stopper for me. My feet hurt, I quickly ran out of breath, my joints ached the next day, and dang it! I just didn’t want to because it was so darn boring! Plus I wasn’t keen on making a spectacle of myself waddling down the sidewalk all sweaty and red faced, puffing like a steam engine. I had a million excuses and would resolve with conviction to start “tomorrow”. To be honest at first I had to FORCE myself to get out - that was by far the hardest part.

Now I’m actually starting to enjoy walking every night - I’m sure the 20lb loss has something to do with incentive also. Last night had a zen like quality as the sun was setting. Everything was motionless - not a single whiff of a breeze. All the plants and trees in my quiet neighborhood looked like they had become frozen in time.  I’ve been missing so much!  Who cares what I look like… dang it, I’m doing this for me.

Lazy Saturday

14 07 2007

Lazy SaturdayAnyone else have pets that do strange things?  Merlin always sleeps in the weirdest poses. This is the afghan on the back of the couch and he is nearly vertical in this photo. [click on photo for larger version]

It has been misting rain most of the day today but that didn’t stop me from getting a walk in - GO ME! Plus I got to scope out the local farmers market without the normal mob of people.

WI Friday

13 07 2007

I’m so excited! I’m only 1/2 lb from my next goal (20 lb overall loss) and THEN I get to buy new cloths as I’ve gone down a size but am holding off until I can maintain the loss. Go me! I’ve been on WW for 20 weeks… 19.5 lbs in that time frame is pretty good eh? I’m pleased because DAMN I worked hard for it.

Go me :)

Do you get 8 hours?

12 07 2007

Does any adult get 8 hours of sleep anymore? I try but am lucky to get 6-7 of uninterrupted Z’s a night. This morning I was awake - WIDE AWAKE at 5am. No idea why. I do know that exercise later in the day helps me fall asleep faster but my internal clock seems to be set for only 6-7 hours of sleep.
